Day 1 Lands End to Liskeard

An early start from the estuary at Hayle was foiled by a late start to breakfast at the Cape Cornwall Golf and Country Club. Well, full English is important....nay critical. There followed a very up and down day of cycling. Cornwall is very beautiful but f.....g hilly. It's not just the frequency  it's the gradient which at some times feels impossible.

At coffee time the back-up crew failed to find an "Award Winning" tea room to stop for coffee and cake. We followed them up hill and up Dale into the countryside and in the end gave up with the thought that it probably won the award for staying in business despite being completely inaccessible.
We did our good deed for the day when confronted with a small herd of cows and bullocks that came uphill towards us in a typical narrow Cornish lane. We stopped, they stopped, there was the smell of fear....can you guess where from?
Anyway it seems that day glow green/yellow is quite scary to cattle and they turned tail and ran back down the hill into a field past the farmer who thanked us for in pirate for, "doing a good job". Five minutes later a huge tractor, apparently driven by the farmer's dad at breakneck speed, forced us into the hedge and went by without the slightest acknowledgement; there's gratitude for you.
A lunch, heavy on carbs, in St Austell was followed by a hard ride which included steep, beautiful Fowey to Liskeard

and a Premier Inn and more carbs and sleep. Dartmoor tomorrow.
